Castles: A Serial Design Exploration

Is a contemporary exploration of historical castles, reimagining their architectural legacy through a modern typographic and visual system.

Project Scope: Editorial Design | Typography | Visual Identity

Project Duration: Febuary 24 –March 24 2024 (1 month)

Tools Used:  InDesign | Photoshop | Illustrator

Project Objective

This project explored castles, a subject often overlooked in contemporary design. The goal was to create a cohesive typographic poster series that honors their historical significance while presenting them in a modern, visually engaging way. The challenge was balancing hierarchy, readability, and dynamic layouts across the series.

Design Strategy

I focused on the five most famous castles, reimagining them with bold typography, color, and imagery. After the initial set, I expanded the series with ten additional posters to explore varied typographic layouts. I also created a secondary application—keychains—that extended the project’s visual language into a tangible, interactive format.

What I learned

Through designing a large-scale poster series, I learned how to maintain cohesive typographic systems while balancing hierarchy and readability across fifteen pieces. This project emphasized the value of deep conceptual ideation and strengthened my InDesign skills, while also teaching me how to translate a core visual language from 2D posters into a tangible application like keychains.
