Latchkey Music Festival

A music festival poster combining analog LEGO typography with digital refinement to channel the raw, nostalgic energy of 90s alternative rock.

Project Scope: Typography | Print Design | Analog + Digital Media

Project Duration: Oct 18-Nov 1, 2023

Tools Used:  InDesign | Photoshop | Illustrator | Legos

Project Objective

This project explored how analog and digital techniques can transform typography into a sensory experience. The goal was to design a music festival poster where letterforms lead the composition and visual identity. The challenge was integrating material textures with digital refinement while maintaining strong hierarchy and clear communication.

Design Strategy

My approach began with defining the festival concept, target audience, and lineup to guide the mood. I created sketches and a moodboard to establish direction, then produced analog textures using physical materials. These elements were photographed or scanned and refined digitally to build the final layout, balancing experimental form-making with clarity and craft.

What I learned

Even though music isn’t really my thing, I challenged myself to create a poster inspired by the 80s. I used LEGO—something both my parents and I have loved—to recreate the playful, tactile energy of that era. Building letters, textures, and forms by hand reminded me how analog materials can add warmth and relatability that digital design often lacks, making the final piece feel more human and personal.
